The Abbey Theatre’s Theatre Skills for Business Programme

Back to Articles

13 February 2025

The Abbey Theatre has announced details of two workshops designed for top talent, business managers and decision makers, that will elevate and enhance their presentations, pitches and public speaking for the year ahead, using skills honed over decades for the stage of the National Theatre of Ireland.

On Tuesday, 11th February, Presenting with Impact – a mixed workshop and the Abbey’s most sought-after corporate offering – will see participants unlock new ways to get their points across with confidence and ease.

On Thursday, 27th February, Women in Business: Take Centre Stage will help women reveal their own style, presence and power in meetings, board rooms and conferences, increasing their confidence and challenging any lingering self-limiting beliefs.

Both workshops will allow participants to get hands-on with the fundamentals of voice, breath and body, before moving on to working with text. Using a range of techniques, they will learn how to hold the attention of a room, influencing and inspiring audiences, while ensuring they stay hooked and engaged throughout.

Numbers at these full-day workshops are capped at 10, ensuring participants receive bespoke coaching and personalised feedback. Working with the material in a safe and supportive environment, they will learn how best to apply it to everyday situations and events, as they are encouraged to realise their full potential.

The workshops are led by the Abbey Theatre’s Voice Director, Andrea Ainsworth, who has been central to all productions on the Abbey and Peacock stages since 1995, and who also coaches actors for film and television. Andrea is joined by Gillian McCarthy, an actor and theatre facilitator with more than 20 years' experience, performing with Druid Theatre, the Abbey Theatre, ANU Productions and the National Theatre, London, and facilitating for Deloitte, the Law Society of Ireland and the Smurfit Business School among others.

The workshop includes a light breakfast, mid-morning and mid-afternoon refreshments, and a light lunch, offering like-minded participants an opportunity to grow their personal network.

Members of Dublin Chamber will receive a 15 per cent discount on these workshops. Former workshop clients include Google, Bank of America, AIB, ESB and IKEA.
