Dublin Chamber’s AGM Dinner took place last week and was a resounding success.

Speaking to a sold-out audience at the Chamber’s AGM Dinner on the 23rd of February, President Stephen O'Leary told attendees that the new Planning and Development Bill will help reduce the barriers to investment in housing and infrastructure. More affordable housing in Dublin is required, together with the swift and timely implementation of plans to upgrade Dublin’s energy grid, water supply and public transport network.

O'Leary spoke to the need for continued investment, stating “It is clear to us that cities will remain the drivers of future growth, and indeed city life, with the benefits of higher densities, are inherently more sustainable. Therefore, continued investment in Dublin must be a Government priority.”

“More must be done to support entrepreneurs, who take a personal risk to develop the indigenous firms of the future,” according to the Dublin Chamber President. “We call on Government to introduce a 20% rate of Capital Gains Tax for investment in indigenous firms.”

Dublin Chamber President O’Leary delivered this speech in the presence of the Taoiseach and other high-ranking members of government.

In addition to the above, Dublin Chamber met with Deputy O’Reilly in Leinster House last week to discuss the results of Dublin Chamber’s Q4 2022 Business Outlook Survey and to highlight the needs of businesses with regard to the right to request remote work. Dublin Chamber also met with Deputy Shortall shortly before her resignation. Next week, Dublin Chamber will meet with Secretary General Jim Breslin to discuss the needs of businesses in the face of an increasingly tight labour market, with a particular focus on the subject of apprenticeships. Dublin Chamber will continue to push forward its lobbying agenda for 2023.
