The Irish Centre for European Law are hosting an event Reforming and Revising European Energy Law: Cross-Cutting Impacts at ESB Headquarters on Monday 27 of March at 5:00pm.
The Honourable Mr Justice Maurice Collins will chair a panel of expert speakers comprised of:
- Alex White SC, Director General of the Institute of International and European Affairs, on the legal obligations on the State with respect to energy and climate policy.
- Professor Lisa Ryan, University College Dublin, addressing the electricity market, climate technology and the EU’s response to the Inflation Reduction Act.
- Dr Muireann Á Lynch of the ESRI detailing the electricity market changes and the impact of Brexit on the all-island electricity market.
- Peter McLay, Partner at Mason Hayes & Curran, providing an overview of the legal framework for energy law in Ireland and the effect of the EU's proposed reform
In response to the energy crisis, and the volatility in electricity prices, the European Commission published its proposals for reform. These reforms are likely to have a considerable effect on utilities, energy traders, businesses, and consumers.
This event will be an opportunity for legal practitioners, professionals in the energy sector, and policy makers to understand the legal, policy, and economic context for these reforms, and their likely effects.
