EU Commission Unveils Strategic Measures to Combat Labour and Skills Shortages
Labour and skills shortages are becoming a pressing issue across all EU Member States, with nearly two-thirds of SMEs struggling to find the necessary talent, according to a recent survey. In response, the European Commission has unveiled an action plan to address these shortages through collaborative efforts between the EU, Member States, and social partners in the short to medium term. Executive Vice-President Valdis Dombrovskis emphasised the Commission's commitment to working with stakeholders to bolster the labour market, facilitate skills development, improve working conditions, and attract skilled professionals from beyond the EU's borders.
Recognising the growing significance of this challenge for businesses, the EEN at Dublin Chamber has taken a proactive stance by co-chairing the EEN Skills group. Together, they are devising an action plan to assist SMEs in navigating the complexities of the skills shortage and ensuring their sustained growth and competitiveness.
