Dublin Chamber has welcomed the announcement of two 24-hour bus services for Dublin.
The Chamber, which represents 1,300 businesses in the Dublin region, described the announcement as “an early Christmas present for the city”.
The Chamber said the decision to introduce the new round-the-clock services is reflective of the changing nature of work patterns and the way people socialise in Dublin.
According to Dublin Chamber’s Head of Communications Graeme McQueen: “The new 24-hour ‘41’ service, running between the city centre and Dublin Airport, is an important addition to the public bus network while the city eagerly awaits the delivery of MetroLink – which remains at least 7 years away.”
The Chamber was responding to the announcement today by the National Transport Authority that two routes (41 and 15) will become 24-hour services from Sunday 1st December.
Mr McQueen said: “Demand has been there for some time for a 24-hour bus service between the city centre and Dublin Airport. This is a small but important step forward for the city. The way people access and move around the city is changing considerably and it’s important that our transport providers respond to demand. Dublin Airport is now a 24-hour facility, so the introduction of an all-day bus service is good news for tourists, locals and the many thousands who work at Dublin Airport. It’s encouraging to see that the normal fare structure will also apply to these new 24-hour services. If these two new routes prove successful, then there is scope for the addition of more 24-hour services in the city,” said McQueen.
