Dublin Chamber recognises the crucial role of Local Government in determining the direction of the city and the Region. With this in mind Dublin Chamber regularly makes submissions to consultations organised by Local Government, as well as contributing to proposals for the reform of local government.
On a broad level, the Chamber champions the development and advancement of Dublin from being a good to a great international city. In order to successfully compete with other city regions internationally, greater density and height must be accommodated, particularly between the canals. This will markedly increase the returns from investment in infrastructure, and particularly transport.
Greater density and height will also assist in the delivery of additional capacity in commercial space, hotels and housing. Strategic Development Zones offer a way of speeding up the delivery of urgently needed additional commercial space, hotels and housing. In the same way, a number of areas in Dublin city centre offer potential as Strategic Development Regeneration Areas.
Dublin Chamber has continually advocated for the reduction in Commercial Rates, which are used as a balancing item for local authority budgets. This includes a media presence and submissions regarding coterminous determination of the Local Property Tax and the remainder of the Local Authority Budget containing the Commercial Rates.
On a more micro level, Dublin Chamber has been actively engaged with the City Council on the proposals surrounding the College Green Public Transport Corridor, hosting several events facilitating engagement between members and city officials and made several submissions on the issue.

Submission on Licensing of Outdoor Music Events
In this submission, Dublin Chamber puts forward a number of suggestions which would improve the legislative framework for the licensing of outdoor music and entertainment events:
- The removal of the current three concert limit on Aviva Stadium and Croke Park,
- The time taken to decide on whether a concert should be granted a licence must be compressed,
- A traffic light system should be introduced for the licencing of all outdoor music events.
- No tickets should be sold for an event before certain reasonable assurances are given that a licence will be granted,
- Room for manoeuvre (i.e. the right to appeal) must be included when any licencing decision is made.
